Hey! Glad you're here. Here are some frequently asked questions & answers you may find helpful.

Seriously take a peek as many times as you need before your session.

Most of these tips are for studio sessions, so ask me anything if you don't see the info you need here.

W H A T  do  I  wear?

M A K E U P   or   nah?

Your best look will  be something you feel amazing and confident and comfortable in.

When choosing your outfit consider your audience(s) and a few words you'd use to describe yourself, or the vibe you're going for.

That said, your photos might be for marketing, or your brand or linkedin, but ultimately they're for you. Don't shy away from wearing something that helps you stand out (a whole fit or just an accessory),  something meaningful or fancy, or basically anything that makes you feel like YOU.

BEFORE your shoot we'll have a styling call but here are my suggestions

  • Choose your outfit(s) before your session from top to bottom. Even think about if you how you might change your hair according to look.  This is pretty important:  it gives you more time in front of the camera, and allows me to focus on making great photos.
  • If one outfit is really casual & chill maybe the other is something more fash-ON and fun.
  • Accessorize (if at all) based on how you want to feel & what you're saying about yourself. If you wear earrings or necklaces, make sure they don't distract from your face. Statement pieces are good, just make sure you know what they're saying.
  • SHOES are the unsung hero of vibes and  attitude. Even if we're doing close-ups have a shoe option that feels comfortable or that makes you feel pulled together (or both, ideally).
  • Avoid wearing something *brand new* that you haven't tried on or worn before. You wanna feel amazing, but comfort is key and you'll want to know exactly how you look and feel in what you're wearing.
  • Avoid  tiny patterns or tiny stripes (unless you're someone who likes to pattern-clash, in which case GO HAM); fabrics that are very similar to your skin tone, or super bright whites- these will kind of distract from your radiant face, you know?  Vibrant is good! Neutral is good! Whatever is YOU is good.
  • Even if your studio session only includes one look, bring something to throw over your base layer to switch up your look effortlessly. Cardigan, blazer, shawl, vest, raincoat, mink stole etc.
  • Consider the backdrop: if we're shooting in a park with lots of greenery, avoid wearing green. Your goal is to stand out (at least a bit!) from whatever backdrop we're using.
  • Wear the makeup you normally do, or maybe something with a little extra kick if you're feeling it.  Portraits aren't the best time to experiment unless you're having a professional MUA set up your look. You know your face and what feels best,  and unless you really want to, you don't need to go above and beyond what you might wear everyday.
  • Please arrive with your makeup on and hair done- or at least 80% done. You can do touch-ups before we start and throughout  your shoot.
  • If you tend to get shiny, bring some blotting papers; if you're feeling dry, bring some toning mist, moisturizer, or lip balm.
  • TIP on using highlighter: don't create highlights where they don't already exist and go easier on foundation / skin coverage than you might normally.
  • Bring a brush/ comb, hairspray, dry shampoo, whatever you've used to style yourself
  • If you'd like different looks with and without lipstick, your first look should be without it. Starting with hair down is usually best, too.

If you'd like to book a professional makeup artist or have your hair done for your shoot I have a list of trusted folks and the cost is added to your session fee.

What happens after a shoot, and when can I expect my photos?

This depends on the time of year and my current workload, but you'll typically receive your 'proofs' (edited but not-quite dialled-in yet)  2 weeks from your session date.

Proof images are NOT straight-out-of-the-camera images, so your final edits will look similar to what you see in your proofs. This is also the time when you can request light edits or more refined touch ups.

I take hundreds of photos during a shoot, even if you only need 'a few'.  Lots of them will be you talking or with your eyes closed, and those don't make the cut. Proof images  are chosen at my discretion, based on  what's technically up-to-snuff, and then you get the final say on which images you love best.  Expect anywhere from 30-75 proof images.

Alternatively, I can curate your final images for you! Sometimes looking at 50+ photos of your own face can be a trip, and it's  faster to leave it to an objective eye. You will not receive proofs, just final high resolution images. Please let me know which route you prefer immediately after your session.

Final images are usually  delivered  4 weeks from your proof delivery date.

RUSH (<48  hour) turnaround from the date of your session is an additional $300.00 and must be scheduled and paid for in advance.

Can I bring a friend?

Unless the session is for the two of you, or there is a makeup artist or hair person scheduled, please just bring yourself.

During covid I try to have as few people in the space as possible, and may need to reserve that space for an assistant.

What if I miss my session?

Do you offer retouching?

Can I get unedited images?

As a courtesy I ask that you please notify me of the need to reschedule at least 48 hours prior to your session date. If you reschedule within 48 hours of your session your retainer fee will be transferred up to 2 times to a new date.

For full cancellation please allow at least 48 hours notice, wherein your 50% deposit fee is non-refundable.

Upon request I can do light editing on things like blemishes, or subtle skin smoothing, wrinkled shirts or lint or a few stray hairs. For more involved retouching there is a per image fee of $10.00. I'll always offer moments of pause during our session for you to make sure you feel you're looking your best.

Once I deliver your final edited photos, if there is something you're not pleased with in regards to coloration or cropping I offer one round of updates to your edits. After that a per-image fee applies. To make sure you get photos you really love, let's chat! Tell me what you're looking for, where you hope to  use your photos, and the kind of cropping you prefer before your session begins. Don't be afraid to be specific!

Simply put, nope! All editing is done at my discretion and in my style, as shown on my portfolio. This is a careful process and creative choices are ultimately at my discretion. Stylistic choices in my editing are likely to change in subtle ways over time, but your photos will always be edited to look true to colour with an analogue aesthetic.
